In March 2015, it was reported in The Verge that Amazon will be removing non-compete clauses of 18 months in length from its US employment contracts for hourly-paid workers, after criticism that it was acting unreasonably in preventing such employees from finding other work. Even short-term temporary workers have to sign contracts that prohibit them from working at any company where they would "directly or indirectly" support any good or service that competes with those they helped support at Amazon, for 18 months after leaving Amazon, even if they are fired or made redundant.
Goodreads is a "social cataloging" website founded in December 2006 and launched in January 2007 by Otis Chandler, a software engineer, and entrepreneur, and Elizabeth Chandler. The website allows individuals to freely search Goodreads' extensive user-populated database of books, annotations, and reviews. Users can sign up and register books to generate library catalogs and reading lists. They can also create their own groups of book suggestions and discussions. In December 2007, the site had over 650,000 members and over 10 million books had been added. Amazon bought the company in March 2013.
Toy stores are chaotic and harrowing in any season, but around the holidays, they're guaranteed to turn you into a Grinch. Use TTPM instead and save your sanity as well as your cash. The app puts toys, electronics, sporting goods, and more gifts for kids in one spot and compares prices across stores. You can search, browse, or scan a barcode to find gifts and prices and watch video reviews to help find the perfect gift.
Audible.com is a seller and producer of spoken audio entertainment, information and educational programming on the Internet. Audible sells digital audiobooks, radio and TV programs and audio versions of magazines and newspapers. Through its production arm, Audible Studios, Audible has also become the world's largest producer of downloadable audiobooks. On January 31, 2008, Amazon announced it would buy Audible for about $300 million. The deal closed in March 2008 and Audible became a subsidiary of Amazon.
You can also sign up to sell products on Amazon Marketplace for just $0.99 plus a referral fee and a variable closing fee, depending on the item. If Amazon ships the item they will charge the seller. Just make sure you read all the rules. For example, if you want to sell toys this holiday season, you have to sell at least one item by September, and show a pattern of processing and shipping two dozen items before November.
Free Expedited Shipping - Best Buy offered free shipping on all orders for the duration of the holiday shopping season last year, but it was slow standard shipping. Non-Prime members at Amazon had to spend at least $25 to qualify for free standard shipping, which is not ideal if you are looking to purchase something cheap. While Best Buy offered better free shipping terms for the average shopper, Amazon Prime members enjoyed free two-day shipping on all orders. A Prime membership is not free, but Amazon offers a free 30-day trial, which you can use for all items in the Amazon Black Friday Ad. Since everyone is eligible for a Prime trial membership, Amazon gets the win here when it comes to expedited shipping.
Bing Shopping was eventually sunsetted in 2013 to be replaced by Bing Product Search, which happens right in the Bing search engine. Microsoft does offer the Shopping Campaigns feature within its advertising suite, which may be the closest alternative for now. Purna Virji, who works at Microsoft, has a helpful webinar on how to make the most of your Bing Shopping Campaigns.
The 650 isn't smart and can be a little rough on furniture when it bumps into things, but there are plenty of things to love about this robot vacuum too. It's important to note that this vacuum has no smart controls and doesn't self-charge if the battery dies during cleaning, so if you're looking for those features there are other affordable robot vacuums out there as well. But if you want to tell people you own a Roomba, this is your chance to do so and save some money.
Doramile Direct via Amazon offers its Doramile 35-Liter Packable Hiking Backpack in Black for $18.99. Coupon code "50HJT1J7" cuts that to $9.49. With free shipping for Prime members, that's $10 off and tied with last month's mention as the lowest price we've seen. It folds into a zipped inner pocket for storage and features an integrated rainfly, adjustable chest strap with whistle buckle, and padded shoulder straps. Deal ends November 30.
The Amazon Marketplace includes all products sold by sellers separate from Amazon. These third-party sellers may offer better deals, used items, and competitive shipping charges. Plus, Amazon guarantees the condition of your purchases. Some sellers do not qualify for free shipping under Super Saver Shipping, but they do offer free shipping to Amazon Prime members. Take special note of this when comparing prices between sellers, and even with similar sellers on eBay and Craigslist.
Paribus is a free tool that connects to the email account where you send your shopping receipts. From there, it tracks your receipts and stores' policies to see if you might be owed money (price drops, late deliveries, etc.).
